I recently came across a great book for fiction writers: Self-Editing for Fiction Writers
, by Renni Browne and Dave King.
What attracted me to examine the book initially was the straightforward title. The content, however, is what makes this book so useful. The topics are
- show and tell
- exposition and characterization
- point of view
- dialogue mechanics
- see how it sounds
- interior monologue
- easy beats
- breaking up is hard to do
- once is usually enough
- proportion
- sophistication
- voice
Good editing books are hard to find, but the content, style, and advice of this book puts it on my short list for recommended editing books.
Have you read it, or do you have another resource for fiction writers that you can recommend?
